Long Weekend, 27 April - 1 May

My family and my girlfriend went to a little place called Grietjie Game Reserve. We also went to places like Kruger National Park and the Blyde River Canyon. Was a great weekend all in all.

Just before leaving for the holiday I saw this little, beautiful bird sitting in the tree outside my house.
A Red-Headed Finch. First time I have er seen this bird and was amazed.

We had a visitor while we were sitting on the porch of our chalet who needed to come for a drink. This was jus after we had unpacked all our things and were settled and relaxing, after all it was holiday.
A nice sized Warthog.

On Sunday the 29th of April we took a trip to the Kruger National Park. We went in at the Phalaborwa gate and took the first road off the main road to get away from the traffic that was coming in and it paid off.
The first little animal we came across was unexpected to stay so long but it was warming up in the morning sun.
A Tree Squirrel. It was having a nice scratch.
A really awesome sighting.

This sighting was completely unexpected and my mom screamed stop and I thought it was an Elephant but right next to us on the side of the road was a young Leopard.

This was such an amazing sighting and put a great mood for the day to come. This last photo is my favourite.
It just strolled in front of our car and turned back and walked 2m from my side of the car and then strolled off into the bush behind us. Was amazing.

This was a very interesting find because this male Impala only had half his horns but the horns were shaped to look as if they were properly developed.
No idea how he would've lost them but it's very interesting.

We got back to the main road and then took another road off the main road and were rewarded again by bumping into two Elephant herds. This was the first.

 Two Bull Elephants.
A cheeky youngish bull. Young bulls tend to be cheeky most of the time.
This bull was using the tree as a nice scratching pole. Was awesome seeing some Elephants.
We then found a waterhole where there were a couple of Elephants drinking and two young bulls play fighting on the side but couldn't get a good photo because of the thick Mopane trees

This was also such a great sighting. Elephants are always amazing and fun to watch.

We stopped at this one waterhole, there weren't any animals but there was a bird swimming around in the water.
A Little Grebe. An awesome bird as they actually carry their chicks on there back when they are in the water and the chicks aren't swimming.

We were having lunch and by the waterhole in front of the camp there was a Hippo walking into the water. A really awesome sight to see.
A really nice big Hippo.

When walking to the car after lunch there were two antelope in the bush beside us and it was an amazing sight to see.
A little baby Bushbuck was suckling on its mother. It was amazing. First time I have seen anything like that.

It went a little bit quite for a while but then there was this beautiful, big Elephant next to the road. I believe it could be one of the remaining Tuskers in the Kruger but you never know.

He was throwing dust around and on himself having a nice dust bath. Those tusks are huge which lets me believe that it could be one of the remaining tuskers. A beautiful Elephant.

On the way out of the Kruger we saw this big boy next to the road.
He looked really really angry and aggressive but was very relaxed in the end. Was awesome seeing this big boy before leaving Kruger.

We caught this amazing sunset just before the gate and had to get a photo as the sunsets in the bush are almost always amazing.

On Sunday the 30th of April we went to the Blyde River Canyon to an amazing waterfall and views.
On the way out of our reserve I saw this amazing bird which I haven't seen so close and long for.

 A White-Fronted Bee-Eater. A beautiful bird.

At the same place as the Bee-Eater we saw some Hippo in the river.

This is the river they were in.

This is the bridge just before the turn off to the waterfall.

Beautiful mountains around us everywhere and with the river made it amazing.

Walking up to the waterfall we were pretty much walking next to the river the whole time which was amazing.
All this walking and views led to this amazing dead end.

The water was freezing but was amazing to swim. Had to swim in a place like this. The water was crystal clear and just mountain water which was extremely cold but was amazing. Worth it.

After getting back to the car we decided to head further up the mountain and we came across this crazy and amazing dam.Was beautiful with all the mountains surrounding it.

A great way to end the day and the holiday. Was an amazing long weekend.

Till next time
